You Should Write Something…
Yep, it's another blog!
October 16, 2017

Today while scrolling through Facebook I came across the following post:-

ME TOO.
If all the women (and men) who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote “Me too” as their status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.
If this applies to you, please copy and paste. In solidarity.

I copied and pasted to my own wall because I have been both sexually harassed and sexually assaulted. read more …

yes no sign with yes illuminateedThis blog was initially going to be an open letter to our Prime Minister to let him know my thoughts on the clusterfuck he has made of the fairly simple matter of passing marriage equality. Then last Monday the Australian Public Service Commission released their new social media guidelines entitled Making public comment on social media: A guide for employees putting somewhat of a dampener on my planned comments. read more …

Trump against back drop of US flag with distorted shouting mouthThis morning as I was walking the dog and pondering the latest ‘Trump Twitter meltdown’ as they’ve become known, I began genuinely wondering what on earth talk show hosts are going to joke about in their monologues when the orange man-baby is finally gone from the White House? I’m speaking of people like Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah, the various Jimmys. read more …

Two months since I’ve blogged? You could be forgiven for thinking I’ve been swept up in a new romance (negative) or on a glamorous overseas holiday (nope). No the reason is far more mundane. It’s called ‘normal life’. Lack of blogging is the result of a full time job and generally finishing the week completely exhausted with no plans for the weekend other than staring at Netflix or Foxtel in a slack-jawed stupor before falling blissfully into bed. read more …

A rainbow flat against the night sky

Tonight, hundreds of thousands of people will line the streets of Sydney to watch the annual Mardi Gras Parade. The rain, which has currently been falling steadily for hours, is predicted to ease, but it won’t matter if it doesn’t. A little water is not enough to dampen the spirit of celebration which will fill the streets and then later, much later, the after party at the Hordern Pavillion and the Royal Hall of Industries. read more …

Australian and Indigenous flags blowing in the windAustralians all let us rejoice. Wait, did I say “all”? Sorry, scratch that. I meant to say “White Australians all….” except that doesn’t really work either. I’m white, but I don’t feel much like rejoicing, not today anyway, and each year there are more and more people who feel the same way. I’m really heartened by the number of people who share my view that we should change the date of Australia Day but I’m not hopeful of change anytime soon considering the glacial pace at which this great country of ours gets shit done. Marriage equality anybody? read more …

Smiley face with mouth downturned saying "meh"Where do I start? If you are reading this and you’ve had “good year” then you are in a very, very exclusive minority. Every person I know has had a shitty year. I began it in Edinburgh, Scotland after a particularly nasty last couple of months of 2015 – oh the high hopes I had! From Edinburgh we ventured further north, much further, too much further, and ended up in a nightmare of a town called Lybster where it was bitterly cold and windy and there was nothing open ever and nothing to do. We cut our time there short and traveled back down to the lower highlands of Scotland which were picturesque and lovely. read more …

Badge saying Fuck Trump 2016

Well that escalated quickly. I started the day on Wednesday a little nervous but also excited thinking I was about to witness history as America caught up with the rest of the world and elected a woman to the highest office in the land. Hours later glued to coverage of the US election at work I realised I was witnessing history alright  but not quite as I’d imagined it. read more …

US FlagHey guys! Whatchaaa doin’? Actually I know what y’all are doing, sleeping. But in a few short hours you’re going to be waking up and it’s going to be November 8 or 11/8/16 if you will (your date format is super weird btw) and you know what that means?? Election Day! Yes indeed, Tuesday 8 November, 2016, election day. Just wanted to ask real quick if you wouldn’t mind please voting before you go to work, or after. I understand that it’s a massive pain in the ass to have to do this on a work day, you really need to have a chat with someone about that. read more …

Graffiti on brick wall saying "Busy"

Remember when I blogged regularly? Once a weekish? That was when I had hours stretching before me each day, thanks to unemployment, with not a lot to fill in the time. Then I got a job, a full time job. Five days a week in the office. In my previous job I worked from home two days a week. Don’t get me wrong, I did work, often for longer hours than I would if I were in the office, but it also meant I was home and could chuck on a load of washing or go to a doctor or dentist appointment at lunchtime, being that most of those things are near my actual home. read more …
